Salave Gold

Salave was once the largest gold mineĀ in the Roman Empire. Mining has a rich history in the Asturias region of the Iberian Peninsula, with a legacy of generations of AsturianĀ mines dating back to the Roman period. The Salave deposit is situated at the bottom of an old Roman open pit, actively mined 2,000 years ago. The Romans removed millions of tonnes from the shallower oxidized portion of the deposit in the vicinity of "Los Lagos".
